991 GT3 RS: Underestimated Capabilities

Yeah it's only 10 or so kg lighter, only has 25 bhp more, and is 'only' 5 minutes faster around the Nordschleife (which actually is pretty good) compared to the standard GT3, but I have a feeling a lot of Porsche fans are underestimating the capabilities of the new GT3 RS. There is no doubt in my mind the new RS will decimate pretty much anything below a 918, LaFerrari, and P1 on a track.

How about the Z06 and Nismo GT-R? The Z06 would annihilate it on a track with long straights, and the GT-R could handle it on narrower tracks. But asides from that I totally agre, the 911 has always been punching above it's weight.

The Z06 barely beat the standard GT3 around Willow and the GTR lost to the standard GT3 in Evo's COTY competiton. So I'm backing the GT3 RS to win in both cases.

We will see.. The standard GT3 is already faster around track than a McLaren 650S and almost as fast as a 458 Speciale, so anything is possible with this new RS..

Not anything in my opinion. I reckon that maybe the 488 and definitely the 675 LT will still be faster thanks to their sheer power output which was the divider between the GT3 and the 458S & 650S.

Which track would that be? I've read/watched at least five cases where the McLaren is faster so I'm definitely curious about this development.

Power is overrated :P. The standard 475bhp GT3 is faster around track than the 640ish bhp and significantly lighter McLaren 650S, and is almost as quick as a Speciale..

I don't recall exactly, but I remember in 1 test it was just barely faster than the 650s..

I could only find lap times for the 650S Spider, but it's almost the same car compared to the standard 650S..

Nordshliefe (which the McLaren should have the upper hand..):

McLaren: 7:35

Porsche: 7:25

Although the McLaren is faster around Hockenheim and Willow Springs so... I think it's anyone's guess..I'll leave it at that..

I doubt this is legit since that would mean it is slower than the 12c plus the lack of source material isn't exactly confidence inspiring.

We'll never know though as McLaren won't release ring times for their cars. The 12c time had to be done by a third party (Sport Auto).

Yeah McLaren are almost as bad as Ferrari in that sense.. That's one of the reasons why I love Porsche: no BS, and if anything conservative on their lap times/ specs..

sounds pretty slow for something with 650 hp and active aero. I love the Porsche but that is a sand bag time and by that I mean the car is filled with sand bags to only do a 7:35.
